סיכום הספר "האי ברחוב הציפורים" של אורי אורלב מתאר את חוויותיו של אלכס, נער יהודי שחי בגטו. אימו של אלכס יצאה כמה חודשים לפני תחילת הסיפור המתואר בספר ולא חזרה. היא יצאה לפגישה של קבוצת הפעילים שלה בגטו א'' (הסיפור מתרחש בגטו ג''). אביו של אלכס עובד במפעל החבלים בגטו. כשאביו הולך לעבודה, אלכס לרוב נשאר במחבוא בביתם. לפעמים אלכס בא עם אביו למפעל, ואז הוא יושב עם ברוך הזקן, חבר של אביו, שעובד גם הוא במפעל. לאלכס עכבר שמחליף את נוכחכותו של הלכב שלו שמת זקנה שמו שלג. כשאלכס נשאר לבד בבית, שלג נשאר איתו, אבל כשאלכס הולך למפעל, שלג נשאר בבית בכלוב עד שחוזר. משפחתו של אלכס מתגוררת בבניין עם משפחת גרין. יחד הם בנו בונקר מתחת לאדמה, מתחת לאסלה בשירותים. אביו של אלכס הראה לו פעם את האקדח שלו ואימן אותו להרכיב, לכוון ולירות בו. הוא תמיד היה לוקח את האקדח איתו כל יום לעבודה. יום אחד כשאלכס הולך עם אביו למפעל, באים חיילים גרמניים לקח את כל עובדי המפעל (שהיה שייך לאיש פולני) למחנות עבודה. אלכס התחבא עם ברוך בין ארגזים, עד שבא חייל לחפש ומצא אותם. אבא של אלכס אומר לו לברוח עם אלכס מהשורה בזמן שלוקחים אותם ולהתחבא בהריסות של בית שהופצץ ברחוב שנקרא רחוב הציפורים. ברוך נותן לאלכס תיק ובו אוכל למעט זמן, פנס והאקדח של אביו, שבמזל הגרמנים לא מצאו. ברוך נלקח גם הוא למחנה, אבל אלכס בורח. אביו אמר לו שהוא יבוא למצוא אותו זמן קצר אחר כך, אז אלכס הולך לבית ובדיוק במקום שבו אמרו לו יש חור בקיר, חור קטן, שרק ילד יכול להכנס אליו. תחילה אלכס חי בפחד, אבל כעבור ימים אחדים הוא מחליט לחזור לביתו בשביל להביא את האוכל מהמחבוא שלהם ושל משפחת גרין. כשאלכס מגיע, הוא מגלה שמשפחת גרין השתלטה על הבונקר, ולא הסכימו לתת לו אוכל. כעבור מאבק קצר אלכס מקבל אוכל בתמורה לכך שלא יחזור. את כל שאר הבית רוקנו כבר הבוזזים. אלכס חי בחור שלו, ובלילות ולפעמים גם בימים הוא יוצא ועובר בין הבתים, לוקח את מה שהוא צריך ולפעמים מוצא גם קצת אוכל. הוא פוגש משפחה של שלושה אנשים, שלקחו שק של סוכר שהוא התכוון לקחת אז הם נתנו לו קצת. באחת הפעמים הוא פוגש גם באיש ששמו אדון בולק, שעובד עם המחתרת היהודית בצד הפולני מעבר לחומת הגטו. אלכס מחליט בשלב מסוים לעבוד לגור על אחת מהקומות ההרוסות של הבית, לאחר שחיילים גרמנים באים לבית ומנסים להכנס לחור אבל לא מצליחים כי הוא קטן מדי בשבילם. הוא מביא חבלים ובונה סולמות ככה שהוא יוכל לעלות אבל כשהוא יהיה למעלה לא יראו אותם. כמה ימים אחר כך, באים חיילים ומפוצצים את החור שבו אלכס חי עד אז. אלכס מגלה שמלבדו חיו שם עוד אנשים בבונקר גדול באדמה.

Island Htzifurimm Street Uri Orlev /Summary of the book "The Island on Bird Street" by Uri Orlev describes the experiences of Alex, a Jewish boy who lived in the ghetto. Alex's mother came out a few months before the beginning of the story in the book and did not return. She went to a meeting of its active group in a'' (the story is set in C '). Alex's father works in the rope factory. When his father went to work, Alex usually remains hidden in their home.
